The perfect wedding band

The tradition of wearing wedding rings goes a long way back, and is even believed to have been practiced by the ancient Egyptians! The wedding ring is traditionally worn on the fourth finger of the left hand (although certain European countries use the right hand), as this particular finger was believed to have the "vena amoris", Latin for a vein that is directly connected to the heart. Although science has proved this wrong many centuries ago, we think the ring finger and the wedding ring around it are still really important. After all, your wedding ring symbolizes the union of two people.

Since you and your spouse will wear only one pair for the rest of your life, choosing your wedding rings is not something to be taken lightly. Before pinning down one ring style to use forever, get to know the different types of wedding rings that can fully suit your personality.

Here are some things to consider when choosing wedding bands.

Budget

First things first, have a budget in mind...

There are wedding rings to match any budget. Wedding ring prices vary depending on the type of metal and style you choose for the band. You'll need to bear in mind that a rarer metal, such as platinum, or a higher carat of metal, will be more expensive.

Metal

The metal of the ring is an important aspect, not just for their different characteristics, but also because they vary in terms of weight, likelihood of being an allergen, whether or not they tarnish, and of course, the level of care needed to maintain the band. We prefer to work with Fairtrade/Fairmined gold or recycled platinum as these are hard metals that can hold a stone and last.

Style

Consider the overall look of your bands. Do you want matching bands, or perhaps individually designed bands. Perhaps her ring needs to fit around the engagement ring, in which case we would design it baring this in mind. Whether you want a plain band, or something more unique with a personal touch, the possibilities are endless.

Profile

The profile of your ring refers to its shape. This is an important detail to consider because this directly affects whether or not the ring is comfortable to wear and the style of the ring. A court is one of the most popular choices because of its rounded edges. A flat ring is a modern choice and as the name suggests, is flat on all sides. A flat court ring combines the aesthetics of a flat ring with the comfort of a court ring.
